Lil Twist Says He Accepted Drug Charges to Protect Justin Bieber’s Career

Lil Twist revealed new information about his and Justin Bieber’s friendship in an interview on Wednesday. During the interview for the Mina’s House podcast with Mina SayWhat, Twist recalls taking a major L to keep his former best friend Bieber out of trouble.

In July 2013, Twist was pulled over in Bieber’s car, a 2012 Fisker Karma, and arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Twist was reportedly en route to Bieber’s Calabasas residence when he was stopped.

“Told Justin and them they could put that on me in his early career because if they would’ve put weed charges on Justin in his early career it would’ve been bad on him,” Twist said in the interview. The charges ultimately amounted to a misdemeanor in California and Twist was released without any penalty.

Twist went on to say that Bieber’s team metaphorically “had their knee on my neck,” for years to keep the then-teenaged pop singer’s image clean. After Twist took the wrap for Bieber the first time, the Growing Up Hip-Hop Cast Member claims it became a slippery slope.

“…it got to the point where I didn’t even have to be there at times and they would still say ‘Twist did it, Twist did it, Twist did it,’” the rapper told Mina. “Yeah, we smoked weed. We both did. Yeah, we did such and such. We both did. Why was it just… whatever,” Twist says.

In 2013 after Twist’s DUI arrest, TMZ reported that Bieber’s camp was concerned about the then 19-year-old superstar hanging out with the Lil Wayne protégé who they viewed as a “bad influence” on Bieber.

Twist admits that being associated with Bieber was helpful for his career but the pressure from being blamed for a lot of the bad things associated with their friendship forced Twist to reinvent his image.

The Young Money rapper recently got off probation after pleading no contest to assaulting Nickelodeon Actor Christopher Massey at a house party. Twist was sentenced to a year in jail for the incident but ultimately served 7 weeks and 3 years of probation.

Now off probation and out of trouble, Twist is enjoying his role on WeTV’s Growing up Hip Hop and prepping his new project Young Carter 2. Twist claims that he and Justin still communicate.
