There Is More To ‘Swagg Bouncee’ Originator Richard “Swagg” Curtis IV

Richard “Swagg” Curtis IV has already worked up quite a reputation for his dance moves. The Oakland native began dancing at age 4. By age 9, he was already hired to dance for the Golden State Warriors Jr Jam Squad, although this did not come easy. His first tryout did not go as planned when he did not make the cut. After receiving constant encouragement from his mother, he remained persistent and would land the position after his initial tryout.

The young dance prodigy would go on to attend and graduate from Oakland School of the Arts, School of Dance and move to Los Angeles to further pursue his career. His move would prove to be successful. The 24-year-old choreographer has performed with some of the biggest names in music including Nicki Minaj, Janet Jackson, and Childish Gambino.

In 2017, Swagg joined Minaj for her performance on the Billboard Music Award stage. He would return the following year to perform with Janet Jackson as the 2018 Billboard Icon Award recipient. Swagg also joined Jackson on her Unbreakable Tour prior to the performance. Lastly, in 2019, he took the stage with Childish Gambino in a headlining performance at Coachella. Swagg has performed with N.E.R.D. as well.

Most recently his viral “Swagg Bouncee” dance has been featured in DaniLeigh and Chris Brown’s hit, “Easy (Remix)” video as well as Chloe x Halle’s latest single, “Do It.”

While in quarantine, Swagg is anxious to get back to doing what he loves most. In addition, he hopes to continue to help build an LA dance scene filled with camaraderie, one dance step at a time.
