Today In Black History: Sandra Bland Died Behind Bars After Traffic Stop 5 Years Ago #NeverForget

On this date in 2015, an extremely troubling and disheartening story broke out of Waller County, Texas, in which a well known Black Lives Matter activist was found dead in her jail cell just 2 days after driving down south to begin a new job.

The woman, 28-year old Sandra Bland, was pulled over at a traffic stop and detained after allegedly acting “combative” towards authorities. A video clip of the incident only shows Bland being forced to the ground, knee in her back.

Five years later, no one has ever been charged for the death of Ms. Bland, however, the arresting officer, former Texas State Trooper Brian Encinia, was fired a year after Bland’s death.
