Diplo's long-running BBC Radio 1 show Diplo & Friends comes to an end

It has been an eventful week at BBC Radio 1. Following the announcement of Annie Mac’s departure, turning in her final broadcast after 17 years with the station in June, Radio 1 has also announced that Diplo‘s long-running Diplo & Friends show will also come to a close.

Annie Mac is set to be replaced on Radio 1 on Friday nights by Danny Howard. Additionally, Clara Amfo has been named the new host of Radio 1’s Future Sounds, though currently the station has yet to share additional details regarding the timeframe for the Diplo & Friends finale. Sian Eleri and Sarah Story have been named as the hosts of two brand new programs, Powerdown Playlist and Future Dance, though it is unclear what will directly replace Diplo & Friends.

Widely known as a rite of passage in the dance music space, the dozens of DJs and producers who cut their teeth—and ultimately earned their stripes—on Diplo’s two-hour Saturday night slot paint reflective picture of popular electronic music over the better part of the last decade.
