French Montana, Khalid, J Balvin, and more feature on Major Lazer's long-awaited 'Music is the Weapon'

It has been five years since Major Lazer‘s beloved third studio album, Peace is the Mission. Now, half a decade later, we’re finally getting the official follow-up, Music is the Weapon. The dancehall outfit was previously joined on their 2015 LP by the likes of Ariana Grande, 2Chainz, Travis Scott, Ellie Goulding, and of course DJ Snake on the airwave dominating “Lean On.” Now, following suit on its predecessor’s collaborative stylings, Music is the Weapon also promises a collective of different artists working alongside Major Lazer for what has been theorized (though unconfirmed) as the group’s final album.

The newly revealed tracklist reveals that the majority of the album will be comprised of previously market-tested singles including the Nicki Minaj-assisted “Oh My Gawd,” Marcus Mumford’s folk-crossover, “Lay Your Head on Me,” “Can’t Take it From Me” alongside Skip Marley, and J Balvin‘s “Que Calor.” The record also includes appearances by Alessia Cara, Beam, Paloma Mami, French Montana, and more.

Diplo and Major Lazer have kept themselves especially busy during COVID-19 lockdowns. With no shortage of new material from the group’s members this year, Music is the Weapon could be a serendipitous wrap on the group’s strangely successful 2020 run.
