Watch Depeche Mode's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction acceptance speech

Electronic trailblazers Depeche Mode were sworn into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on November 7 alongside fellow 2020 inductees including The Doobie Brothers, Whitney Houston, Nine Inch Nails, The Notorious B.I.G., and T-Rex. The UK icons were lauded by Charlize Theron, who praised the rock band for being “the soundtrack to [her] adolescence.” Theron added,

“They celebrate the outsider. Their music brings people together from all different walks of life and makes them feel like it’s okay to be different.”

Frontman Dave Gahan reflected on the band’s collective musical journey in his acceptance speech, stating,

“You know, growing up, listening to music on the radio, and having music, it really kind of helps us to feel normal—feel part of something…That’s what music does for people and I think that’s what Depeche Mode has done for many people.”

After uniting unconventional sounds and individuals for more than 40 years and seeing three Hall of Fame nominations since 2006, it’s safe to say that the honor did not come a minute too early. Watch Depeche Mode’s full acceptance speech below.
