Chicago-based bass wizard MeSo is joining forces with Los Angeles-based rising talent Kurei for a brooding banger on Bassrush Records.
“Dark Moon” is a deep dubstep anthem that serves as the label debut for both artists.
“Dark Moon” is an entrancing, lush dubstep banger that mixes gritty sound design and mystical elements to create a killer contrast. Opening with mesmerizing vocals and ethereal melodies, the pair paint a vivid soundscape that is ominous yet alluring. Moonlit textures illuminate the darkness as magic spans the scene. Trap-inspired chants offer a warning shot before the cinematic opening is eclipsed by rubbery low-end leads, sparse percussive clanks, slicing textures, air-raid samples and a cavernous groove. The bloodthirsty drops rattle the earth like an ancient beast stalking its prey. Clocking in at just over two minutes, “Dark Moon” is a menacing and murderous rampage filled with late-night delight.
KUREI reflects on how the collaboration came together, saying, “This song started as an idea I wrote about a year ago, and had been sitting on for most of last year. Kevin [MeSo] and I had begun talking about getting a collab started and I had sent a folder of WIPs to him, and this project was the one he had resonated with most! After a few sessions sending back and forth, the final track ‘Dark Moon’ was created. I am so excited about this release, showcasing the more melodic and ethereal sides to my music while maintaining the heavy-hitting bass style I’ve been releasing. It really feels like a big first step into the future of my music and I am so honored to have gotten to work with Kevin on this. The ideas flowed seamlessly and he really helped pull the vision together to get the track to where it is today.”
Hailing from Chicago, MeSo is an Korean American producer renowned for his innovative take on experimental bass and wonky dubstep. He is the founder of the underground collective spicy bois and has released music alongside LSDREAM, Space Wizard, Blurrd Vzn, um.., Super Future, and Secret Recipe. MeSo is a favorite amongst the scene, drawing support from YOOKiE, CloZee, REZZ, ATLIENS, Caspa, and more.
Los Angeles-based KUREI has been taking the underground scene by storm with her unique take on trap and bass music. Her music has gained support from seasoned tastemakers including NGHTMRE and SLANDER, Zeds Dead, and Alison Wonderland. She has an upcoming performance at The Untz Festival, and previously played Wormhole’s 11 Year Anniversary in San Francisco, and Space Yacht’s Big Bass Ting in L.A.
