Following lead actor Chadwick Boseman’s untimely death, Black Panther soundtrack streams have skyrocketed, maxing out at a whopping 104 percent spike in listeners. Boseman—who passed away on August 28 from colon cancer—is widely renowned for his role as King T’Challa in the 2018 Marvel film, and since his passing, fans far and wide have shared stories and memories of how the actor affected their lives and inspired them to dream.
According to a Billboard report, the film’s Grammy Award-winning soundtrack generated 3.5 million on-demand streams in the US on August 28 and 29. The album takes on a new meaning following Boseman’s passing, not only honoring the revolutionary spirit of King T’Challa, but paying homage to the actor that played him, too.
With Kendrick Lamar at the reins, Black Panther: The Album (Music from and Inspired By) also features tracks from the likes of SZA, ScHoolboy Q, and Khalid. Notably, the recent spike in streams opens up the possibility of the album making a reappearance on the Billboard chart for September 12.
