HiMom!!! caught our attention with a techno EP that has a unique mix of classic ‘90s trance influences, and old-school rave with hardcore breakbeats.
‘Lucid Dream’ is four-track release that has techno elements that tie the tracks together, but it spans a wide range of styles.
Not much is known about, HiMom!!!, except for this is their second release. It’s a distinctive name that’s hard to forget, so we are certainly curious to see what comes next from them. This release comes via HiMom!!!’s own record label, Dancing By Myself, and it’s the debut release from the imprint.
The first track, “Come Alive,” is definitely the closest to traditional techno, as it’s got a looped lead synth that’s kept interesting with waves of modulation. The melody is full of euphoria and the trippy vocals also have uplifting tones, but the percussion is definitely techno orientated.
“Starlight” sounds like trance from the early ‘90s with its pumping groove and steadily building euphoria. This track sounds very retro, but in a refreshing way, and its raw production holds up against modern tracks, which makes it a great DJ tool.
“Breathe” also sounds like old-school trance, but from the early ‘00s, due to its polished synths and more subtle bassline, which allows the melody of the pads to be a main focal point. It’s got strong techno elements in the percussion, and a compact breakdown that doesn’t stray too far from the main groove.
“Bring Me Out” is a dramatic change of pace, as it’s a low-slung breakbeat track with a hardcore percussion and ravey, vocal stabs. The breakdown introduces a euphoric synth similar to the other three tracks, and this gives it a bit of a Bicep vibe.
If you like euphoric techno or have a soft spot for retro analogue trance, then this release will be right up your street.
