According to a recent report from CNN, two more officers who responded to the Capitol Hill Riots on January 6 have committed suicide, bringing the total of cops who died by self-inflicted death to four.
NBC News reported, “Officer Gunther Hashida was found dead at his home Thursday, the Metropolitan Police Department said Monday, and Officer Kyle DeFreytag was found dead July 10.”
“We are grieving as a Department as our thoughts and prayers are with Officer Hashida’s family and friends”, read a statement from fellow officers of Hashida’s Police Emergency Response Team, of which he’s been a part since 2003.
The two other officers who took their own lives were Officer Jeffrey Smith, a 12-year-veteran who committed suicide days after the attack, and Howard Liebengood, an officer since 2005 who took his own life three days after the attack.
