Boogie Down Productions Released 'Criminal Minded' 33 Years Ago

Boogie Down Productions released their debut album Criminal Minded 33 years ago on March 3, 1987.

The album literally changed the face of hip hop at the time shifting the tone to a militant and intelligent point of view. The highly influential album featuring KRS-One and DJ Scott La Rock was the beginning of the battle between the NYC boroughs. Who owned hip hop and who was better became a common question. The songs “South Bronx” and “The Bridge Is Over” ignited the rivalry with the Brooklyn-bred but Queens resident emcee MC Shan and the Juice Crew ultimately making history.

During an unfortunate case of events, DJ Scott Larock who produced the classic album was shot and killed over a stupid street beef as the hip hop world mourned his death.

The blastmaster KRS-One continued their legacy and the album was deemed a classic sampled and honored by emcees and producers worldwide.

Happy Birthday to this classic album. What was your favorite track?
