Robert & Lyric Hood’s globally revered house and techno project, Floorplan, returns to Luke Solomon’s Classic imprint with the explosive club release, ‘What A Friend.’
‘What A Friend’ utilises chopped vocal samples to maximum effect, dispersed brazenly over hard four-on-the-floor beats, creating club music that is sonically arresting, rhythmically enthralling and bursting with the attitude expected from Detroit’s legendary club scene.
As an early member of Detroit’s Underground Resistance, Robert Hood understands what it is to be the vanguard of a genre, now celebrating his faith through gospel-inspired dance music with his daughter Lyric Hood. Together as Floorplan, the pair have built a strong relationship with Classic over the years, earning the respect of tastemakers like Seth Troxler, Dan Shake, TSHA, and Jamie Jones thanks to their unmistakable gospel house and techno sound. Recent releases like UK radio favorite ‘We Give Thee Honor / Makes Me Wanna’ and underground cuts ‘The Curse Breaker / What You Need’ and ‘Like Dat’ further proved Floorplan’s willingness to show their full talent at every turn.
Floorplan is not your ordinary techno act: they’re on a mission to spread a message of love. Since Detroit, techno pioneer Robert Hood invited his daughter Lyric to join him under the moniker of Floorplan in 2016, they’ve been sweeping the scene with a house and gospel-infused, hard-hitting techno sound that moves you — physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Robert’s wisdom and decades of experience, fused with Lyric’s open-mindedness and impeccable musical instinct, make them a force to be reckoned with, both on stage and in the studio. Anyone who has listened to their albums Victorious on Robert’s own M-Plant label and Supernatural on Aus Music or has witnessed one of their explosive performances can attest to that.
Floorplan is operating on a divine level of blood harmony. Being a father and daughter spanning two generations gives them an unparalleled outlook on electronic music. Their faith in God cements the connection. From their first collaboration to their latest banger — the widely acclaimed We Give Thee Honour on Classic Music Company — Floorplan remains a force to be reckoned with.
All eyes are now on Floorplan’s third album, which will also be coming out on Classic and preceded by a set of singles. Knowing Floorplan, they will hit you where it counts.
