Former Police Officer Derek Chauvin Arrested and Charged With Third Degree Murder of George Floyd

Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was arrested on Friday for the killing of George Floyd. Chauvin was caught on video with his knee pinning on Floyd’s neck. Chauvin is the first of the four fired officers to be arrested and is charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter.

Floyd repeatedly screamed out saying he could not breathe. Floyd can be seen on camera losing consciousness and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz spoke earlier on Friday in lieu of the murder, the arrest of Floyd’s assailant and the on-going protest in Minneapolis.

“Their voices went unheard, and now generations of pain is manifesting itself in front of the world,” said Walz. “And the world is watching.”

The brutal murder of George Floyd is the result of racism rearing its ugly head once again in America. Throughout the week, the City of Minneapolis has literally gone up in flames during protests in response to Floyd’s murder. These fires are the result of the city’s demand that all four officers be arrested for George Floyd’s death.
