Joe Biden Commits to Having a Woman as His Running Mate

Joe Biden said that he would absolutely have a woman as his running mate should he be selected as the Democratic candidate for president.

On Sunday night’s Democratic debate, the former vice-president assured the world that not only will he run with a woman as his co-ticket, but said that a Biden cabinet would reflect the rest of the nation. Does that mean it would be multi-cultural, multi-ethnic and have people from different racial, gender identities and social classes?

He said, “If I’m elected president, my cabinet, my administration will look like the country and I commit that I will, in fact, appoint a, pick a woman to be vice president. There are a number of women qualified to be president tomorrow. I would pick a woman to be my vice president.”

Sen. Bernie Sanders tried to swiftly gloss over that, but when asked if he heard what his opponent said and if he would commit to the same, he would not.

Sanders stated to the moderators, as there was no audience at the debate, that he would “in all likelihood” choose a woman to be his vice president.

He added to his statement that this was not about “just nominating a woman” and that he had “very strong tendencies… to move in that direction.”

Regardless of Sanders’ inability to commit to a running female running part, many seemed to applaud Biden’s statement, even as it came as a surprise.
