Drake and Justin Bieber might both be Canadian icons, but it looks like their musical chemistry isn’t syncing up right now.
Over the weekend, Bieber posted a cryptic Instagram carousel with the caption, “Dm me if u wanna make music together.” Casual, simple – but it got the internet talking fast. Tons of fans jumped in, and so did a bunch of fellow musicians. The biggest name of them all? Drake, who straight up commented, “I DM’d but no reply.”
And just like that, the internet caught fire. Drake being left on read? Unheard of. The comment racked up nearly 42,000 likes in no time, and fans didn’t hold back. Replies flooded in, with one saying, “we better see a collab soon,” while another fan posted on X, “Him and Drake on a song goes triple platinum btw.” Honestly, they’re not wrong.
But here’s where it gets awkward – Justin didn’t respond. Not to Drake, not to anyone. Other artists like Big Sean, Kehlani, Jaden Smith, and even country artist Bailey Zimmerman all tossed their names into the ring, but Bieber stayed quiet. So now everyone’s wondering what’s going on. Is he swamped? Ignoring everyone? Or is this just part of some genius album rollout strategy?
Drake and Bieber do have a little history. Back in 2012, they teamed up for a track called “Right Here” on Bieber’s Believe album. It didn’t exactly top the charts (it peaked at No. 95 on Billboard), but it was still a moment. It’s been over a decade since that song dropped, so fans have been itching for a reunion. And when Bieber throws out an open invite and Drake responds immediately, that felt like the perfect chance.
Drake’s definitely in music mode right now. On March 31, he dropped the video for his new track “Nokia,” which comes from his collab album Some Sexy Songs 4 U with Partynextdoor. That project’s got a smooth vibe, so adding Bieber’s vocals to the mix could take things up a notch. A new joint song would’ve been huge.
On the other side, Bieber has been teasing music for months. Back in February, he shared a behind-the-scenes studio shot with producers and instruments scattered everywhere. It looked like album prep, and fans definitely noticed. If this new project happens, it would be his first solo studio album since Justice in 2021 and his seventh overall. That alone has Beliebers on edge.
Even without new solo stuff, he hasn’t totally disappeared. In 2022 and 2023, he dropped collabs with Don Toliver – “Honest” and “Private Landing” – but it’s been quiet since then. So when Bieber casually said “Dm me,” it felt like something major was brewing. Except now it just feels like a weird cliffhanger.
Drake’s very public nudge might’ve been playful, or maybe he was seriously trying to get something started. Either way, Bieber not answering him has sparked a wave of speculation. Is it industry politics? Is Bieber trolling everyone? Or is he just taking his time before dropping something big?
What’s clear is that fans are fully invested. A Drake and Bieber track in 2025 would be major. The last time they linked up, both artists were in totally different stages of their careers. Now, with global followings and tons of hits under their belts, a collab would be massive. Even a one-off single could break the internet.
Right now though, we’re all just watching this play out in real-time. Drake’s been left hanging, Bieber’s being mysterious, and the fans? They’re refreshing Instagram like their lives depend on it. Let’s just hope this silence ends with a surprise drop, because otherwise – what a missed opportunity.
So do you think Bieber’s ignoring Drake or planning something sneaky? Drop your thoughts in the comments and tell us if you’re still holding out for a collab.
