Auckland-based Montell2099 is a genre-defying producer with a boundless sound that moves between trap, wave, drum & bass, and hip-hop.
Making his debut on NGHTMRE and SLANDER’s Gud VIbrations imprint comes “GO!” featuring the highly sought-after talents of singer/songwriter Sam Bruno.
“GO!” is an emotive trap masterwork that is equal parts gripping, addictive, and banging. Built around Sam Bruno’s captivating vocal performance, the track is a love-fueled ride-or-die anthem. Wavy melodic riffs and effervescent textures lay the foundation for the emotional topline to float over. As the vocal delivery shifts gears to a more accessible appeal, the beat follows suit by enhancing it with entrancing leads to build anticipation. The drops are primed for festival stages, combining fidgeting vocal processing, towering synths, speaker-filling low end, and crisp claps. Speaking on how the collab came together, Montell2099 explains: “‘Go!’ is a song I’ve been sitting on from when I was listening to a bunch of wave music, which is composed of melancholic melodies and a heavy use of saw synths. With those themes in mind, I created the main lead line for ‘Go!,’ and then built the rest of the track around the melody. Sam Bruno came on with her amazing vocals and gave ‘Go!’ new life—what started out as a song just for my live sets has now turned into one of my favorite vocal releases, thanks to Sam.”
