OddKidOut, HEKLER, And Scruffizer Team Up On Ferocious Rap-Powered Trap Collaboration “ORIGINAL STEPPA”

Philadelphia-based producer OddKidOut and Las Vegas’ Hekler are two of the most consistent artists in the bass space.

OddKidOut is renowned for his genre-defying style while Hekler has been shaking things up in the realms of dubstep, riddim, and trap. The two are making their return to Bassrush Records alongside lauded British MC Scruffizer. The trio fuses their collective talents and varying styles for the epic bass-heavy anthem “ORIGINAL STEPPA.”

Finding the perfect balance between blistering bass and UK rap, “Original Steppa” is an instant smash that’s primed for playlist placements and festival stages. Fuzzy guitar harmonics and gritty textures lay the sound bed while Scruffizer bursts onto the track with an aggressive verse dripping with swagger and charisma. The razor-sharp flow is punctuated by snappy drums and rapid-fire arpeggiations that build the excitement to an apex. The first drop leans into OddKidOut’s signature with a filthy trap sound that’s riddled with distorted bottom-end, precision percussion, and the catchy hook that gives the track its namesake. A break led by threatening bars acts as the perfect precursor to the menacing finale. True to Hekler’s devastating discography, the track explodes into a crunchy riddim switch-up that’s assured to break necks and rails alike. Filthy sound design, merciless laser-like synths, and brutish bass collide to score the track’s climax. Clocking in at just over two minutes, the trio takes listeners on a thrilling ride that’s assured to have them coming back for more.

OddKidOut reflects on how the collaboration came together, saying, “I originally made this track as a soundtrack for me and my friend to go graffitiing to. We had this whole plan to tag certain places around LA and film it, and this track originally was going to be the soundtrack to the video we would make after doing it. However, over time we abandoned the project and simultaneously, Hekler and I began to talk more and more. I sent him the track to see if he would want to add his flavor to it, and he absolutely demolished the second drop on it. Scrufizzer came in towards the end and blessed us with an incredible topline for the track. It was his vocals that really glued the track together and gave it the finishing touch. It’s one of my favorite bass tracks I’ve ever made.”

Las Vegas-based producer Hekler has been setting the bass scene ablaze with a diverse discography that pulls from hip-hop, dubstep, and ambient. He’s fresh off of his recent single ‘HEK SZN,’ arriving on the hindlegs of his debut album ‘Abyss,” both of which were released on Bassrush earlier this year. He has an upcoming headline show at The Madison and will be joining Ray Volpe at Stereo Live Houston and Dallas.

Philadelphia-raised OddKidOut is a producer, multi-instrumentalist, and finger drummer who’s been taking the electronic scene by storm. His sound effortlessly moves from hard-hitting trap to vibey future feels and everything in between. He made his debut on Bassrush last year with “Distorto” on the label’s ‘The Prophecy Vol. 6’ compilation, which saw support from Run The Trap, EDM Identity, Heard It Here First, Dubstep FBI, and Vents Magazine.

Hailing from West London, Scruffizer is a rapper and producer who has risen from humble beginnings on pirate radio to nearly a million monthly streams on Spotify alone. Effortlessly moving from grime to garage, hip-hop and house, bass music and beyond, the artist transcends categorization. With features alongside heavy-hitters like Zeds Dead, Wax Motif, Don Diablo, AC Slater, and Roska, the emcee has become one of the most in-demand voices in electronic music.

Blurring the boundaries between trap, dubstep, and rap, “ORIGINAL STEPPA” is a monstrous banger that’s built for bass lovers.

OddKidOut, HEKLER, and Scrufizzer’s new single “ORIGINAL STEPPA” is available on all platforms via Bassrush Records.
