A Harlem mom was fatally shot after she approached a man who had just groped her on the street .
29-year-old Shadina Smith, mother of one, was shot three times in the chest and killed near her apartment on W. 150th St. and Frederick Douglass Blvd. about 12:30 p.m. on Jan. 16.
Authorities say she ran upstairs to tell her fiance what happened and they both went outside to confront the groper. The argument led to gunfire and the couple was caught in a hail of bullets inside the first-floor hallway of their apartment building.
The fiance was hit in the chest and left arm and Smith was struck three times in the chest.
Both were taken to Harlem Hospital, where Smith died. Her fiance has since been released from the hospital. Harlem has been plagued with a list of recent violent acts against black women. A young girl was bit on the eye after refusing a man’s offer to pay for her wine. Another Harlem mother was fatally shot after asking her son to get a job.
We have to do better protecting our queens.
Smith’s killer has not been caught.
