The Proud Boys Leader Enrique Tarrio Worked As FBI Informant

According to an exclusive report from Reuters, the leader of the neo-Nazi group The Proud Boys worked as an FBI informant after being taken into custody by authorities in 2012.

37-year-old Enrique Tarrio was pointed out as an informant by his lawyer and an FBI agent in a 2014 transcript that details the Proud Boys leader’s role as a stoolie. The Reuters-obtained transcript says that Tarrio helped the FBI prosecute over a dozen people in cases ranging from drugs to human trafficking.

Tarrio denied these allegations, however, Vanessa Singh Johannes, the federal prosecutor in Tarrio’s case said that Tarrio “cooperated with local and federal law enforcement, to aid in the prosecution of those running other, separate criminal enterprises, ranging from running marijuana grow houses in Miami to operating pharmaceutical fraud schemes.”

Jeffrey Feller, Tarrio’s lawyer, said in a smuggling case, Tarrio put himself “at his own risk, in an undercover role met and negotiated to pay $11,000 to members of that ring to bring in fictitious family members of his from another country.”
