Arguably one of the most popular Hispanic-owned food companies, Goya Foods is facing calls for a boycott, after their chief executive praised President Donald Trump. Robert Unanue, the CEO of Goya Foods praised the president at the event, saying: “We’re all truly blessed at the same time to have a leader like President Trump, who is a builder.”
This comes as a surprise to the Latino community who are Goya’s number one supporters and took the comments as a snuff because of past comments President Trump has made about their community.
Remember when President Trump slandered Latinos and insulted them on a consistent basis? Back when he announced his candidacy for president, he began by comparing Mexican immigrants to “rapists” and then decided to broaden the scope of his insult to all Latinos “It’s coming from more than Mexico,” he added. “It’s coming from all over South and Latin America…”
At CNN’s “State of the Union”, he decided to call Mexicans “killers,” and even suggested that Bush would have more lenient views on immigration reform because of his Mexican-born wife, Columba. Also when those two brothers attacked a 58-year-old Hispanic homeless man in Boston, breaking his nose and urinating on him he dismissed it with another heartless statement. “Sadly, the overwhelming amount of violent crime in our major cities is committed by blacks and hispanics-a tough subject-must be discussed.” He called the two brothers who announced they were his followers “passionate”
Social media didn’t take long to respond calling for a Goya Foods boycott and recipes to make your own Adobo everywhere. Hilarious memes and videos popped up on the ‘gram including this funny skit from Dominican comedienne Black Rose.
