Your Music Tastes Impact On All Aspects Of Your Life

Listening to music is one of the most popular hobbies in the world. Most people listen to music on a regular basis.

But what do music tastes say about us? Are they just music tastes or do they have a bigger impact on your lives than we think?

Believe it or not, music tastes actually have a huge influence on your life.

How music tastes impact other aspects of your life

Here are some of the main ways in which music tastes impact other aspects of your life.

1. Mood

Research shows that music impacts our mood and the type of music we listen to influences our emotions.

When we listen to upbeat or happy music, our brains release dopamine and serotonin. These chemicals can lead to happiness, joy and optimism.

When we listen to soothing music, our brain and body usually start to relax.

When we listen to sad or melancholic music, our brains will trigger different responses which will in turn affect our mood.

In short, our brains mirror the music’s tone. They send different signals to our bodies depending on the music.

Research also shows that we choose music based on our mood and mental state.

We are not just influenced by our music tastes, our music tastes are sometimes a reflection of our current state of mind.

This is why many people listen to sad songs on repeat when they are feeling down but will skip these same songs when they’re cheerful.

2. Fashion style

Music can definitely shape your fashion style. For example, Taylor Swift fans tend to dress differently from gothic rock fans.

But even amongst the Taylor Swift fan community, not everyone dresses the same. This was apparent during Swift’s Era’s Tour.

Fans were encouraged to dress up based on one of her Era’s. The styles differed from one era to the next.

Even though not every Swiftie dresses the same, they tend to dress differently from other music fans.

For example, gothic rock fans will dress very differently from Swifties. They will gravitate more towards black clothes, black hair and dark eyeliner.

Those who love rap music or hip-hop usually opt for streetwear styles. Those styles usually include baggy pants, patchwork style flares, gold jewelry, and graphic tees.

Although your music taste can definitely impact your fashion style, it’s worth noting that some people like to mix different styles and sometimes adopt a style that’s unrelated to their music taste.

For example, some Swifties love streetwear fashion. Some individuals who never listen to rap or hip-hop gravitate naturally towards streetwear.

In short, there seems to be a correlation between music taste and fashion style but that’s not always the case. Some people have a favorite fashion style but also like to experiment with other ones.

3. Lifestyle

Our music tastes can sometimes influence our lifestyle.

For example, if you love rap, chances are you are going to rap concerts, watching rap videos and engaging in rap-related activities. You are probably socializing and forming close bonds with other people who love rap.

If that’s the case, we could say that rap is shaping some of your lifestyle choices.

Same thing applies if you are a Taylor Swift fan. You are most likely engaging with the artist’s content, going to her concerts and to Taylor Swift-themed events.

Many of your friends probably love Taylor Swift songs as well, right? That’s normal, a lot of people befriend and even date individuals who have similar music tastes.

Some people even recreate, knowingly or not, a certain lifestyle. For example, fans of country music will sometimes adopt country culture and choose a lifestyle that feels close to that culture.

Music is usually representative of a broader culture. People who love a certain type of music will sometimes adopt that culture’s lifestyle.
