Theresa Unleashes Easy-Going Electronic Ride In ‘Unstoppable’ [Exclusive Interview]

Theresa, a dedicated advertising music executive, has recently unveiled “Unstoppable,” her 15th single that’s capturing attention across the pop world. Born and raised on Long Island, she began composing music at the age of eleven. While her corporate journey took precedence for a while, music always remained a steadfast passion. Today, alongside her day job, she diligently crafts tracks, showcasing her undeniable talent and love for the art.

Growing up in Long Island, Theresa’s passion for music was evident from a young age. But even with her early compositions hinting at a promising future, life’s twists took her on a different journey. Fast-forward to now, and it’s clear that music never truly left her side.

This single is not just another addition to her growing discography; it’s a personal outcry. This track, oozing with vibrant dance-pop energy, feels like a fresh breeze on a summer day. The sound is on point and the lyrics are a window into her journey, the challenges she’s faced, and her unyielding spirit.

What makes “Unstoppable” standout isn’t just its catchy tune or the top-notch production by Alfie Cattell; it’s the soul Theresa pours into it. It’s a song for anyone who’s faced challenges, reminding us all that with grit and passion, we’re, well, unstoppable.

If “Unstoppable” is any indication of what Theresa has in store for 2023, then pop enthusiasts are in for a treat.

Exclusive Interview

You’ve had an interesting journey, balancing your role as an advertising music executive with your pursuit of a pop music career. Can you tell us more about how you manage these two worlds?

I am not going to lie – it is tough balancing my “real life” with my “dream life”.
As a 43 year old woman with a demanding career, I often find myself playing tug of war
between these two worlds. I definitely have to make choices and sometimes
compromises with my time. I never give less than my best and always want to be present
in whatever role I am playing. I actually love waking up early to hone in on my creativity
and self care. I usually meditate, exercise, journal and work on a song or two all before
9am when I jet off to the office. I really do enjoy being productive – some people may
think I am insane but I love to work!

Your latest single, “Unstoppable”, is about confidence and embracing your true self. Can you share what inspired you to write this song and the message you hope it conveys to your listeners?

I wrote “Unstoppable” while I was working on a challenging project at work. I was
drained and felt lost. But deep down inside I knew I could do it – I knew I was
unstoppable. And then I just kept on saying to myself over and over…I AM
UNSTOPPABLE and the song was born. I do hope that other listeners can use this song
to boost their own confidence when in need. Doesn’t matter what anybody else thinks or
says, you need to believe in your own greatness to feel your best.

You began writing original songs at a young age. Can you describe the moment or experience that initially sparked your passion for music and songwriting?

For as long as I can remember, I always loved music. You could find me listening to
music, watching videos or putting on little living room performances with my cousin or
friends. I loved Madonna and just wanted to BE her. She was and still is such a force of
nature. Following the beat of her own drum all of the time. I just remember wanting to do
what she did. I was also a big fan of Debbie Gibson and like me, Debbie was from Long
Island. She was a young artist who wrote and produced her own songs and I was
intrigued. I wanted to write my own songs and be in control of how they sounded – and
so I did!

Life presented you with some challenges that caused you to put your music dreams on hold for a while. What motivated you to rediscover your musical talent and pursue a career in pop music again?

Honestly, I had one of those blips. I was cleaning up some things and found some
songbooks and got super emotional. Writing and performing music was something I
always wanted to do and I “gave up” due to not thinking I was good enough. I had made
a decision right then and there to just go for it. There was no looking back, no blaming the past – just looking to the future. And I am so glad I took those baby steps to get back
into my artistry. I have a gift and it’s time that I share it.

Could you share some insights into your creative process when it comes to writing and producing your songs? Do you have any specific rituals or inspirations that guide your work?

Songs come to me. I am a lyric and melody girl and I have to feel something to write.
Sometimes I am on a writing roll…I am on one of those now where I come up with a new
idea almost everyday or other times the last thing I want to think about is writing a song
because absolutely nothing will come out. I have to respect the process and embrace
creativity when it feels most natural.

You’ve worked with various producers throughout your career. Can you tell us about your collaboration with Alfie Cattell on “Unstoppable” and how it influenced the song’s sound?

Alfie is great. We wrote this song remotely – him in the UK and me here in NY. I really
wanted to create something that felt confident and bold ala Lady Gaga and Kylie
Minogue. Epic dance pop. Alfie totally got that and really brought that sound to life so
effortlessly.

With 15 singles under your belt and ongoing releases, what can your fans and new listeners expect from your music in the coming months? Any exciting projects or collaborations on the horizon?

As I mentioned, I am on a songwriting kick at the moment, so just pouring my heart into
some new ideas. I am on the market for some new creative collaborators and friends. I
am open to new sounds and opportunities. Putting it into the universe to see what
comes back!

I have some live shows coming up too – next up, I will be playing SleepwalkNYC on
Thursday October 19th. If you find yourself in NYC, come on down! My performances
really share a whole other dimension of me and I know they never disappoint.

What advice would you give to aspiring singer-songwriters who are looking to balance their creative passions with other career pursuits, just as you have?

Follow your dreams! Even if you feel like you can’t do something, push those excuses
away and just try. Baby Steps…put 10 minutes a day to help move the dream needle
forward. 10 minutes a day can add up, trust me. And then in time, 10 becomes 20 and 20
becomes 30, etc. You will suddenly find time to fuel the fire within you.

As you continue to evolve as an artist, do you have any long-term goals or aspirations within the music industry that you’d like to share with us?

I want to keep on writing and performing and keep on creating. Music gives me such joy
and I want to share that joy with the world one song at a time.
