The 2020 simulation has glitched yet again. Following the launch of Vin Diesel’s new career as a DJ, Mike Tyson is hopping into the ring with his own electronic debut while training for the comeback match of the century.
The song, aptly titled, “Mike Tyson,” devilishly recants: “I’ve been the wildest, I’ve been the craziest, I’ve been the outrageous, the vicious, the most destructive fighter that ever lived. I’m Mike Tyson. An international star, a warlord that’ll strip your heart out… and guess what? I’m Mike Tyson!” Looping the self-declaratory vocals into a steep build before a wiry trap break, the track is, if anything, pretty on the nose—something that’s of course well within Tyson’s repertoire.
Tyson worked in collaboration with LA collective, Tiki Lau to produce the menacing trap geyser. The track takes off with a familiar build-up, cutting directly into a shrill drop that calls back to a time when festival trap had permeated well beyond festival stages. The animated music video displays a hulked out, cartoon Tyson touting his world-renowned boxing chops on a tropical island. Tiki Lau recently said in a statement,
“In the process of making this song, every day we would wake up and think, ‘What would Mike Tyson do?’”
The 54-year-old champion has proven his strength and aptitude in the ring time and time again, staking his claim as one of the sport’s greatest with 44 wins in 58 matches across his professional career. Now, 18 years later, Iron Mike is back after his last true match in 2002. The highly anticipated match between Tyson and rival, Roy Jones Jr., will take place on November 28, after being postponed back in September so that Tyson would have ample training time after his lengthy hiatus. Rumor has it that Tyson could be stepping into the ring blaring his new trap anthem. Only time will tell.
