Billie Eilish releases new single 'Therefore I Am'

Billie Eilish has released a new single “Therefore I Am,” alongside its self-directed music video. The experimental pop track follows her July release of “my future” as well as her Bond themed track, “No Time To Die.”

The 18-year old singer surprised fans by parodying herself in the visual for “Therefore I Am,” taking place at a deserted shopping mall in Glendale, California where Eilish would spend most of her early years as a teenager. In the video, the Grammy-award winning artist is seen carelessly cavorting around the shopping center stealing food and drinks. A word play on the famous philosophical quote “I think, therefore I am,” the track encourages fans to interpret the message for themselves. However, the pop star had something different to say about the track, explaining in an interview with Zane Lowe,

“It feels like me. The rest of them also feel like me but this one is more like—if I think about it from an outside perspective, this one, I’d be satisfied, you know, if I was a fan. This song is very, very up for interpretation. I’m curious to see what people get from it and also what they feel when they hear it. Yeah, it’s a little mean, a little bit. It was very fun to complete. It was fun to record, especially, because, I feel like you can hear it. I feel that I sound very, like, I’m just fucking around. I’m just joking and shit. You know that, “Stop, what the hell are you talking about?” It’s like, come on. It’s so real and natural and don’t take me seriously, you know? I love it.”

“Therefore I Am” is the fourth single released by the artist since Eilish’s Grammy-winning debut album WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?. Her upcoming documentary Billie Eilish: The World’s A Little Blurry will hit theaters and Apple TV + in February 2021.
