Burning Man organizers launch crowdfunding campaign to ensure future of event

Following Burning Man‘s 2020 cancellation due to COVID-19, festival organizers have launched a crowdfunding campaign with the goal of ensuring the festival’s future. The fundraising effort calls for supporters to donate to the cause with a suggested amount of $475, the price of a ticket.

Despite revenue shortfalls, Burning Man remains committed to returning to the Black Rock Desert in 2021. The fundraising campaign states,

“Sadly, we will not be gathering in the Black Rock Desert in 2020. Though this will result in an unprecedented revenue shortfall for Burning Man Project, we remain optimistic. We are committed to maintaining the critical infrastructure we’ll need, after cuts to expenses and staffing, to produce Black Rock City 2021 and continuing our vital off-playa work in the year ahead.”

Earlier this year, Burning Man Project, the non-profit organization behind the Nevada festival, also introduced a virtual events platform, Kindling. The online portal stands in as a way to continue staying connected to and engaged with the community while experiencing live content. On July 17, Burning Man organizers hosted an environmental sustainability event via Kindling.
