Doja Cat, J Balvin, BTS to perform at 2020 MTV VMAs

Despite COVID-19 restrictions, the show must go on. That’s the ethos behind the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), which will proceed in accordance with social distancing guidelines and other pandemic-specific safety measures. The VMAs will be held at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, New York on August 30, and will be broadcast live at 8:00 p.m. EST.

Of note, the VMAs, approved by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, will be the first event to be held at the Barclay’s Center since New York enacted its quarantine. Although the safety details to be enforced at the event have not been announced in full, Cuomo has stated that there will be either a “limited” audience or no audience at the event. Further, all elements of the awards ceremony that can be presented virtually will be digitized, and select performances are also slated to be delivered at “various iconic locations” throughout New York.

Following MTV’s June announcement that the VMAs were still on, the network has since disclosed the first performers slated to appear at the 2020 event: Doja Cat, J Balvin, and BTS. This will mark BTS’ first-ever guest appearance at the VMAs.
