Kid Cudi announces directorial debut on Netflix, ‘Teddy’

Veteran multi-hyphenate Kid Cudi recently announced his debut directorial role for an upcoming Netflix film, Teddy. The film, said to have been in the works since 2013, also positions Cudi in the starring role, which reportedly draws some autobiographical details from the rapper’s own life. JAY-Z and The Harder They Fall filmmaker Jeymes Samuel co-produced the film as well, adding to the stellar behind-the-scenes lineup. Cudi is also planning to drop his eighth studio album Entergalactic later this year which will also be accompanied by a Netflix animated series.

“I added a lot of my own personal struggles and experiences in it, so this film is very close to my heart. I know, that deep down, this movie will help people in the same ways my music has. I’m continuing my mission. Now this is a comedy, but it wouldn’t be me if I didn’t sprinkle some real shit in there. It’s trippy, it’s fun, it’s sad, it’s life.” says Cudi in an Instagram post. While there has yet to be a publicly announced release date for Teddy, the film’s official announcement signals to a release date likely later this year. See Kid Cudi’s full Instagram post below.
