Spotify, Songkick, and Ticketmaster team up for virtual events launch

Spotify has launched a new virtual event feature in partnership with Songkick and Ticketmaster. Announced September 15, the new integration hosted on the streaming platform will enable Spotify listeners to discover digital event listings on artist profiles and in the “Concerts” hub. With more artists pivoting to digital performances in light of COVID-19, the latest three-way initiative arrives at a time of utmost necessity for the music industry.

Spotify personnel detailed the aim of the three-part collaboration in a blog post, writing,

“In lieu of live shows, staging virtual performances across a variety of platforms has become a vital way to connect with your fans, and share who you are with new listeners. With many tours postponed until 2021, the necessity for these virtual events is set to continue, and we want to make it easy for Spotify listeners to learn about virtual events for the artists they love, as well as artists they’re discovering for the very first time.”

Artists can work directly through Songkick or Ticketmaster to list their upcoming events on Spotify and set them under “Artist Pick,” allowing featured virtual events to be visible at the top of their profiles. Qualifying digital events can be hosted on any platform including Twitch, Instagram Live, YouTube Live, and more. Listeners can also find artist events by searching “Concerts” in the search bar.

Spotify will support marketing and promotion for the events through personalized email campaigns, which will notify listeners of upcoming digital performances from the artists they love.
