The Flaming Lips introduce inflatable bubble concert experience – Mix Session

Performing in an inflatable bubble is nothing new for The Flaming Lips‘ lead singer Wayne Coyne. The band has previously made headlines due to Coyne’s theatrical stage entrance, where he descends from an inflatable bubble onto the stage and blobs on top of concertgoers. Now, the entire band has jumped on board to provide a COVID-19-friendly concert experience for their fans.

Taken in a clip from their recent performance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, the band is seen performing their 1999 hit, “Race To The Prize,” with all band members and audience members encapsulated in inflatable bubbles. Though there’s been handfuls of unforeseen predictions and test runs to the short-term future of live music shows, The Flaming Lips might have taken the cake.
