The Weeknd shares release date for fifth studio album, ‘Dawn FM’

“A new sonic universe from the mind of The Weeknd,” Dawn FM is now only days away. In a surprise trailer for the long-awaited project, the Canadian megastar has revealed a 60-second glimpse into the world of Dawn FM, alongside an official January 7 release date. Nearing the end of the trailer, a narrator elucidates,

“You are now listening to 103.5 Dawn FM. You’ve been in the dark for way too long. It’s time to walk into the light and accept your fate with open arms.

The trailer depicts both a young Weeknd and an aged version of himself, both navigating a dystopian, sci-fi-inspired landscape. What’s more, the enigmatic teaser confirms album features from Jim Carrey, Quincy Jones, Tyler, The Creator, Lil Wayne, and experimental producer (and After Hours collaborator) Oneohtrix Point Never.

Following 2020’s After Hours, the first taste of Dawn FM arrived last year in August with the release of “Take My Breath.” Since then, The Weeknd made vocal appearances on a trio of collaborations with FKA Twigs, Swedish House Mafia, and the late Aaliyah. On January 7, the first Friday of 2022, Sir Abel Tesfayeh will return to the mainstream spotlight with what will likely shape up to be one of the most in-demand records of the year.
