2023 will celebrate two complete decades since Steve Angello created SIZE Records. And it simply could not have been any more fitting that the label’s first release to initiate its 20-year celebration came from a family member. Back in July, AN21 shattered a seven-year intermission on his career—which he chose to enact due to what he labeled as a creative shortcoming—with his first original since 2015 alongside HIISAK and Able Faces, which exclusively premiered on Dancing Astronaut. A handful of months following both “Alright” and a 2010-2012 stage slot at Tomorrowland later that same month, AN21’s return calendar came to a finish with a follow-up in the form of “No Tomorrow” with Maunt. Just shy of two months later and paired with the revelation that he’ll return to Boom this July, the Swede is back home on SIZE Records to open its anniversary year and complete a comeback release trifecta with “Love’s Not Over.”
AN21 forecast 2023 with the description that it’d be “one for the record books.” And earning the right to lead SIZE Records’ 20-year celebration already defends that outlook. With assistance from both Kuaigon and Silhouette, “Love’s Not Over” writes a third distinctive chapter to AN21’s present-day artistic renewal. AN21 captioned an Instagram post about the release by saying that “people don’t really listen to music anymore,” adding that any listeners should give “Love’s Not Gone” the proper listening experience it truly deserves. One playback of the near six-minute cut will more than likely give color to AN21’s on-the-nose commentary of music’s current attention span, with the trio applying a rejuvenating spin to melodic techno as they narrate an emotion-drenched production that auspiciously lights a milestone year for one of dance music’s most decorated labels.
