The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) has newly established a paid summer internship program for students enrolled in historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs). The ASCAP is currently accepting applications for the program, which will run through July and August and will admit five students from HBCUs. Selected applicants will work remotely in various ASCAP departments, such as marketing and communications/events, data strategy, and membership, among others.
Current partners of the program include Howard University in Washington, Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, Morehouse College in Atlanta, and Bennett College in Greensboro. In the future, ASCAP intends to expand this list of partnering HBCUs in its enduring commitment to fostering diversity, said ASCAP CEO Elizabeth Matthews,
“This program is a natural extension of ASCAP’s ongoing work to create and evolve a culture of inclusion and belonging that reflects and serves the incredible diversity of our ASCAP membership.
By creating a new pipeline for college students to gain music industry work experience, we hope to provide meaningful mentorships and opportunities to new generations of black leaders who will influence the future of the music business.”
Each of the participating HBCUs are distributing applications to ASCAP’s summer internship. The deadline to apply is June 29, with internships expected to start during the second weekend of July.
