Bassnectar has always been a leader in activism within electronic music. As producers of a genre of music spearheaded and created by members of the black community, Bassnectar now joins the likes of Marshmello and Eric Prydz in donating to prominent activism groups amidst current nationwide protests following the unjust death of George Floyd at the hands of police brutality.
Bassnectar and his team will be spreading the funding across five admirable activist groups over the course of the next week. Donations will be made to Black Lives Matter, Color of Change, Campaign Zero, The NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, and Media Justice. Along with these donations, Bassnectar has stated he will be exploring specific themes of Empowerment, Social Justice, Education, Demanding Change, and Activism that relate to each of the organizations he is supporting. Make no mistake—dance music is born from black culture. Without black creators, innovators, selectors, and communities, the electronic dance music we hold so dear would simply not exist. In short, dance music is deeply indebted to the global black community and we need to be doing more.
