Carole Baskin condemns use of big cats in 'WAP' music video

Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion‘s music video for “WAP” has been making waves since its release on August 7. With some deeming the overtly sexual video vulgar and lewd, and others regaling it as a feminist take on women’s sexuality, it seems that everyone has an opinion on the visual, including Carole Baskin.

In an interview with Billboard, the big cat rights activist criticized the video’s use of big cats as props, stating,

“The worst part is that [the video] glamorizes the idea of rich people having tigers as pets. That makes every ignorant follower want to imitate by doing the same.”

Carole Baskin, the CEO of Big Cat Rescue, an animal sanctuary in Florida, came into the public spotlight following her participation in the wildly popular Netflix docu-series, Tiger King. The series followed the trials and tribulations of fellow big cat enthusiast, Joe Exotic, who pinned Baskin as his nemesis and rival in all things cat.

Cardi B’s team has been contacted for a response to Baskin’s accusations, but the singer has not responded. In addition to proclaiming her love for Tiger King in the past, Cardi B has made known her support of Joe Exotic, who is currently incarcerated on counts of murder-for-hire in a conspiracy to kill Baskin, among other counts.
