With just four words —”It’s been a minute”—Diplo effectively brought Silk City‘s extended silence to a close on January 13. The duo, comprising Diplo and Mark Ronson, needs no introduction, but after more than a year of no original Silk City content, a refresher certainly doesn’t hurt. After bursting onto the scene to the glimmering turn of a disco ball in May 2018 (see “Only Can Get Better“), Diplo and Ronson collaboratively ran through the release ring several times, but slowed after the September 6, 2018 delivery of the Dua Lipa-aided “Electricity.” The single, which attracted several remixes throughout 2018, notably secured Silk City 2019 Grammy honors for “Best Dance Recording” of the year.
Then, save for the “Silk City & Picard Brothers Remix” of Robyn‘s “Missing U,” issued on May 31, 2019, the Silk City lights went dark on the release end. Now, though, they’re slowly flickering back on, thanks to a cryptic tweet from Diplo that unequivocally signals a Silk City return of some sort. Though what, specifically, is in the works is currently unclear, the tweet links out to a new website by the name of “The New Love Club,” emblazoned by the words “opening soon.” On the website, visitors can RSVP, presumably for its entry, whatever that entails. More details are assuredly to come, and those assuming that this surreptitious announcement could allude to Silk City’s debut album just might not be off base, but time will ultimately tell.
