On July 16, Black Coffee surprised Hï Ibiza clubgoers with an unexpected special guest: Drake. Drizzy made his entrance right as Black Coffee began to spin “Massive,” one of the most-talked-about tracklistings on his seventh studio album, Honestly, Nevermind. Black Coffee notably served as executive producer on the album and has production credits on “Currents” and “Overdrive.” Although the Grammy-winning pals did not actually perform the song together, the surprise appearance amplified the Ibiza hotspot’s atmosphere into the early hours of the morning, as Drake danced and vibed to his own tune.
Honestly, Nevermind serves as a major shift from Drake’s sonic modus operandi, replacing rap and R&B influence with a heavy dose of house-inspired beats and melodic rhythms. The sharp turn in sound has been polarizing, but the scene at Hï Ibiza shows that this new venture is undoubtedly dance floor-ready. Black Coffee has enjoyed a banner year as well, becoming the first African artist to win the Grammy for “Best Dance/Electronic Album” (for his 2021 album, Subconsciously).
