A trip to the White Isle is no longer out of the question for individuals hoping to party in Ibiza this summer, following a statement from Spain’s president, Pedro Sánchez, declaring that the country will resume admitting foreign tourists on July 1.
“Spain receives more than 80 million visitors a year. I am announcing that from July [on], Spain will reopen for foreign tourism in conditions of safety. Foreign tourists can also start planning their holidays in our country. Spain needs tourism, and tourism needs safety in both origin and destination. We will guarantee that tourists will not run any risks, nor will they bring any risk to our country,” said Sánchez.
For weeks, Spain’s central and regional governments have worked to prepare for the return of international travelers, said Sánchez. Foreign tourism is a central component of Ibiza’s economy—nearly 75% of the island’s 147,000-plus population sources its income from services that are either directly or indirectly related to tourism, such as Airbnb bookings, restaurants, bars, and taxis.
Sánchez’s announcement follows Hï Ibiza, Ushuaïa, and Amnesia‘s cancellation of their respective June events. At present, it is unclear when these hotspots will reopen.
