NWA's 'Fuck Tha Police' streams surge nearly 300% in wake of national protests

N.W.A’s ‘Fuck Tha Police’ recently surged by 272% in light of the current George Floyd protests. Alpha Data, the company who provides data for the Rolling Stones charts cited the song’s sharp rise to 765,000 on-demand audio streams from Sunday, May 31 to Monday, June 1. The song released in 1988 was a lyrical protest shining a light on police brutality and racial profiling, which provoked the FBI to write a letter to N.W.A’s record company claiming their art misrepresented the police. The protests held across the world follow the death of George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man from Minnesota who was killed by a white police officer, Derek Chauvin, on Monday, May 25. Footage of the arrest shows Chauvin kneeling on Floyd’s neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds, as he repeatedly pleads, “I can’t breathe.”
