Following President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris’ historic victory in the 2020 presidential race, the incoming president and his running mate addressed the nation to the tune of some of electronic’s own. Kygo‘s recent rework of Whitney Houston‘s “Higher Love” resounded as Biden concluded his speech and Avicii and Coldplay‘s 2014 anthem, “A Sky Full of Stars,” also got some speaker time. The latter’s inclusion had a deeper meaning; it was Joe Biden’s late son’s (Beau’s) favorite song and Chris Martin notably performed the number at Beau’s funeral in 2015.
These two selections expand the Biden-Harris campaign’s history of tasteful music choices. The new elects are memorable for previously using Hudson Mohawke‘s “Chimes” in a promotional video for National Voter Registration Day.
