After opening in 2017, Printworks will officially close its doors for good at some point in the near future. Plans had already been set in motion back in October of 2021, but on July 11, London’s Southwark Council had formally pushed through plans for a complete renovation.
Under the changes, Printworks as well as Surrey Quays’ leisure center and shopping center, will be converted into a co-working space that includes offices as well as retail locations. While there’s no current date set in place for Printworks’ final show, Browdick Live—the venue’s management company—has reportedly known that this was a possibility since the print press warehouse-turned-iconic-club first opened a half-decade earlier. Brodwick Live—who was also behind London’s The Drumsheds, which shuttered earlier in the year—are working on a replacement for the two called “The Beams,” a 55,000-square-foot location set to open in East London this October.
