For one glorious moment, allow yourself to imagine what a dubstep version of “Sk8r Boi” would sound like.
This wishful thinking could soon become a reality, according to a November 25 video of Skrillex and Avril Lavigne that has since prompted a fury of collaboration speculation. Despite the fact that the video depicts only a casual hangout and is noticeably not taken from within a studio, as ardent Skrillex fans have suggested, it’s very feasible that the two acts could be working on a project behind the scenes.
Skrillex’s following has anxiously awaited one new album at a minimum for quite some time now, and his recent appearance with Lavigne is just the latest in a string of Skrillex sightings that have found the OWSLA founder alongside fellow artists, including Incubus’ Mike Einziger, The Beach Boys‘ Bruce Johnston, The Beastie Boys’ Mike D, Tech N9ne, and many more. Whether or not this joint appearance does, in fact, prove a forthcoming collaboration? Only time will tell.
