Switzerland's Caprices Festival returns after successful nationwide lockdown

Switzerland’s Caprices Festival might have been among the many festivals around the world to issue a pandemic postponement earlier this year, but with strict lockdown provisions that were generally followed around the country, it become one of the few to actually return in 2020.

Originally scheduled for April, Caprices will make its comeback this September, purposely spreading its crowd thin across two weekends of late-summer Swiss Alps sets. This year’s lineup hits the high notes of deep house and techno, including (but not limited to) Adriatique, Dubfire, Guy Gerber, Ricardo Villalobos, and Damian Lazarus. Checkout the full lineup to see who is playing which weekend and best coordinate your plans.

If you’re wondering how Caprices Festival is able to get off the ground in 2020 whereas events like Coachella have turned their postponements into cancellations, it’s important to note the progress that Switzerland has made since first being slammed with COVID-19 back in March. Thanks to the strict lockdown measures imposed in the spring, the country saw daily coronavirus cases drop as low as a dozen in June, and although it has seen small surges since, the Swiss government attributes these increases to practical factors such as citizens returning from abroad, as well as increased exposure to family, coworkers, and peers.

With that being said, Caprices Festival is only possible because of the cooperation with the current measures, which have been eased but are still in effect. As such, the event will be limited to 1,000 attendees per weekend, with individual areas having stricter capacity rules. Contact tracing is also mandatory at all Swiss events, so those in attendance can expect to have their IDs checked and some basic information taken.

While the priority is of course to keep festival-goers safe during their attendance, the panoramic views of the Crans-Montana, paired with the star studded lineup, make Caprices one of 2020’s diamonds in the rough. Tickets for the event are on sale now, so check your region’s travel provisions and start planning your trip here.
