It’s been a little more than a month since The Weeknd released perhaps what will be his most critically acclaimed album to date, Dawn FM. Delving into his own creative interpretation of purgatory and what awaits us in the afterlife, the heavily conceptual LP, soundtracked by the soothing AM radio-primed voice of none other than Jim Carrey, delivered numerous instant hits and continued on where 2020’s After Hours had left off—with The Weeknd broken and bleeding out, well on his way to another year atop the charts.
Much like the way After Hours proved to be a gift that kept on giving, culminating in a performance at the 2021 Super Bowl, Dawn FM will continue on with The Weeknd x The Dawn FM Experience on Amazon Prime. Hitting the platform on February 26, the immersive special created by The Weeknd, La Mar C. Taylor, and director Micah Bickham will transform into a visual representation of the album. Speaking in a press release, the Canadian crooner said of the upcoming special,
“I’m ecstatic to partner with Amazon to premiere the most elaborate live TV special I’ve ever done. Welcome to the next phase of Dawn FM – a purgatory otherworld where live performance, theater, and performance art collide for a night out at the club.”
In addition to bringing Dawn FM to life, an exclusive eight-track live EP will also be available on Amazon Music.
Following the release of his most recent album, The Weeknd confirmed that Dawn FM is the second part of a trilogy that began with After Hours. While not much else has been revealed about what may happen in the next chapter, if the previous two records provide any indication, it is sure to be a masterpiece.
