VILLA delivers heavy-hitting first original of 2023, ‘sacred’

VILLA has officially delivered her first original production in over a year. And “sacred”—which follows a rework of Alison Wonderland‘s “Safe Life” from earlier this year—offers a high-energy blend of trap and bass that features the quality production listeners have come to expect from the Dancing Astronaut Artist to Watch in 2023.

In an exclusive conversation with Dancing Astronaut, VILLA explained that “sacred”—her first original since “ghost” from May of 2022—is a “reflection on a very specific time” in her life. She used to attend a conservative, Catholic college in rural Indiana where she lived for four years. And during that time, she never felt she could truly be herself, struggling with the intense religious affiliation of the college. But she managed to take some good out the bad. The result is outwardly evident, with the soundscapes featured in “sacred” being inspired by the “many different liturgical instruments that really influenced elements of my production like church bells, string instruments, choirs and organs.” VILLA then tapped directly into those influences to create what would go on to be her newest self-released single.

VILLA has earned support in the past from dance music royalty like The Chainsmokers and Zeds Dead, having also released music on RL Grime‘s Sable Valley and made her festival debut as part of ISOxo‘s NIGHTREALM takeover at HARD Summer in 2022. And aside from a “dream come true” of remixing Alison Wonderland in 2023, VILLA now has dates lined up at Imagine Music Festival, Global Dance Festival, and Nocturnal Wonderland, just name a few. Now with “sacred,” VILLA only continues to prove why she’s one to watch both now and in the future.
