As the United States rounds out Donald Trump’s presidency, and the tumult of the days succeeding the election, one song has been played so consistently and incessantly that it has garnered an increase of more than 750 percent in streams. That song is none other than YG and the late, great Nipsey Hussle‘s “FDT (Fuck Donald Trump).”
“FDT” started out as a protest song in the wake of Trump’s presidency, becoming a staple at protests and marches since 2016. Now, following Trump’s electoral defeat in 2020, the song has become a certified celebration anthem, shooting to the top spot on the charts on election day. According to data presented by Nielsen Music, the track skyrocketed from 240,000 to 1,050,000 streams on election day and saw an added 221 percent in sales on Tuesday, November 3. As many celebrate the win of President-elect Joe Biden, supporters have taken to neighborhoods and larger streets, blasting the hip-hop heater in commemoration of the historical victory.
