Igloofest Montréal returns for 2021 with virtual iteration of winter festival – Mix Session

Igloofest Montréal, one of Canada’s most cherished winter concert celebrations, may need to put its in-person festivities on pause in 2021, but that hasn’t stopped event organizers from plotting their most versatile Igloofest edition yet. For it, Igloofest will return for an entire month (February 13 – March 13) with a score of free livestreaming events held each Saturday night in some of Montréal’s most notable venues featuring the province’s most celebrated electronic and rap artists.

This year’s virtual rendition welcomes performances from Anjunadeep signee CRi at La Ronde, an immersive electronica set from Jacques Greene at the Vieux-Port de Montréal, support from Lou Phelps, a Kaytranada-produced rapper at the city’s Stewart Museum, and a hard-hitting techno set from Misstress Barbara among one of the city’s scenic rooftops. For its final weekend, Igloofest will close out its annual winter extravaganza with a 12-hour marathon of its own, featuring a selection of local artists soon to be announced.

Though many challenges may have presented in recent months, festival organizers Multicolore have found the ideal solution to further the city’s vigorous winter spirit in a safe and socially distanced manner. Not only does this virtual iteration make the festival’s winter-first culture more accessible than ever, this year’s emphasized focus on highlighting the province’s brightest musical talent and city’s architectural delights also opens up the city of Montréal to streamers around the world.

Viewers can tune into Igloofest 2021 on their Facebook, Twitch and YouTube channels.
