Kanye West found himself in the midst of legal trouble the week of August 24, as MyChannel Inc (MYC), a video and e-commerce company, filed a federal lawsuit against the rapper. The suit, filed in California’s Central District, claims that Kanye breached a mutual non-disclosure agreement and utilized the company’s “proprietary and confidential technology and information to promote sales on the Sunday service merchandise platform.”
MyChannel’s attorney, Ben Meiselas, addressed the complaint on Twitter:
“Attorney Michael Popok and I just filed a federal lawsuit against Kanye West for misappropriating proprietary information and not paying his business partners. We will hold Mr. West accountable, as well as those who aided and abetted his conduct, and bring justice to our client.”
MYC also alleges that Mr. West lured the company to direct their resources to the Yeezy brand with the promise of a $10 million dollar investment in the company before he “inexplicably reneged on his side of the deal.”
MyChannel Inc. seeks compensatory damages in the lawsuit, although the amount is yet to be determined.
