Today, British composer and producer Thom Archi, currently residing in Pontevedra, celebrates the release of his highly anticipated debut album, ‘co(m)ping’ (Esmerarte, 2024).
Available across all major streaming platforms, the album fuses pop-electronic beats with dark post-punk undertones and hip-hop influences, creating a genre-blending experience.
Inspired by artists like James Blake and Tyler, The Creator, ‘co(m)ping’ showcases Thom’s musical evolution. The album was co-produced by Thom and a talented team, including Iago Lorenzo, Iván Blanco, and Gonzalo Maceira, with Grammy-winning mastering by Robin Schmidt. The project reflects Thom’s journey into adulthood, featuring a unique production process involving experimental techniques like burning recorded tape to achieve final sounds.
Thom expressed his excitement, saying, “This album is deeply personal and the most authentic music I’ve ever created… I can’t wait for everyone to hear these 10 songs.”
To celebrate, Thom Archi has curated a Spotify playlist for T.H.E Music Essentials, offering fans a deeper look into his influences and creative process. With past appearances at festivals like O Son do Camiño and PortAmérica, Thom is on the rise, poised to be a standout in the alternative music scene.
1. The Streets – Has It Come to This?
I love The Streets and it’s been a huge influence on my album, especially the writing. This song is one of my favorites by them for sure.
2. George Michael – Amazing
I always say I don’t have a favorite song, but if I had to choose I would have to say this one. My Dad loves George and has played his music in the car for as long as I remember. This song is so pretty and literally amazing I couldn’t live without it.
3. Dijon – Talk Down
I heard this song a couple of years ago and fell in love with it instantly, it’s right up my alley. Dijon is incredible and this is a super nice track.
4. fun. – Stars
I got into fun. when I was in high school and really enjoyed loads of their songs, but for some reason this one always stood out and has stuck with me ever since.
5. James Blake – I Want You To Know
I loved this album and this was my top 1 song last year. I’m still obsessed to this day, it has to be one of the prettiest things I’ve ever heard.
6. Coldplay – Sparks
Coldplay is also one of my Dad’s favorite’s, so I grew up listening to the first 6 albums on repeat and I’ve always found this song to be so powerful and so simple at the same time. It really encapsulates what I love in songwriting.
7. The Cure – Pictures Of You
I know I keep mentioning my Dad, but The Cure is his all-time favorite band and he took us all to see them live a couple of years ago. I’ve always loved this album, but after hearing this track live I know they’re also going to stick with me forever.
8. George Clanton – Slide
A great friend of mine introduced me to George Clanton’s music a couple of years ago and he’s now one of my favorite’s. I love listening to all of his stuff but I saw him live last year and remember this track really fondly, he’s great.
9. Burial – Ghost Hardware
This album is probably in my top 3, I could’ve put so many songs from it on here. It feels like home and I’ve never heard music I feel like I relate to so well, which is crazy because it’s mostly instrumental! This track is definitely a highlight.
10. Underworld – Born Slippy (Nuxx)
This song is an absolute classic. It was my Mum’s only request at her hen party, and I’m a DJ so I really, really respect that. Perfect 10/10 closer
