On November 7, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame celebrated a new class of inductees with a virtual HBO special. Originally set to take place in May at Cleveland’s Public Hall, the 2020 ceremony congratulated The Notorious B.I.G., Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, Whitney Houston, and more as the latest iteration of Hall of Famers.
Although the annual event did not host any performances, the induction evening welcomed bittersweet moments and acceptance speeches from inductees. Notably, Biggie was inducted posthumously by long-time friend Sean Combs, Houston by Alicia Keys, and T. Rex by Ringo Starr.
The ceremony also nodded to the recent death of Eddie Van Halen, paying tribute to the late guitarist with speakers like Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello, Guns N’ Roses’ Slash, and Metallica’s Kirk Hammett.
