Breaking into the American music market is widely considered one of the most formidable challenges for any international artist. Yet, Mac Rogan, the founder and CEO of 2NIGHT Management, has built a career on defying these odds. By transforming overlooked international talent into festival headliners, Rogan has cemented his reputation as one of the most influential figures in modern dance music.
His roster, which includes heavy hitters like Matroda and San Pacho, has graced the stages of the world’s most prestigious venues, from the Brooklyn Mirage and Red Rocks to global festival giants like Coachella, EDC Las Vegas, and Tomorrowland. For Rogan, the mission is simple: an artist’s origin should never dictate the ceiling of their success.
From Black Market Mixtapes to Global Management
Rogan’s journey began in Slovenia, a nation with a nascent music industry. His early exposure to the business was unconventional, involving the sale of international hip-hop mixtapes on the black market. By age 15, he was already promoting shows for international acts like KRS-One and Gang Starr. However, the limitations of the local market eventually pushed him toward the burgeoning electronic scene.
“I was fascinated by the culture, the energy, and the scale of it,” Rogan reflects. After successfully organizing electronic events and bringing artists like Moby and Derrick May to Slovenia, he realized his true calling lay in long-term artist development rather than one-off event promotion. This realization led to the founding of 2NIGHT Management when he was just 18 years old.
The 2NIGHT Philosophy: Building Sustainable Careers
When asked about his approach to artist management, Rogan emphasizes that music is merely the foundation. In an era of fleeting trends, he prioritizes identity, consistency, and strategic branding. “I look for people who are forward-thinking and creating something genuinely unique,” he explains. “We focus heavily on touring strategy and building authentic connections with fans. I always look at artists as long-term global projects rather than short-term hype.”
A prime example of this methodology is the rise of Matroda. What began with a resident DJ in Croatia playing for modest fees has evolved into a powerhouse capable of selling out 8,000 tickets in Los Angeles. Rogan credits this success to a combination of organic fan growth, strategic releases, and a robust booking partnership with agencies like CAA.
Cracking the U.S. Market
For Rogan, the difficulty of the American market is precisely what makes it rewarding. “It is the largest market in the world with intense competition, so everything has to be at a very high level to crack it,” he says. His strategy involves a relentless focus on becoming a “hard ticket seller,” ensuring that artists are not just relying on festival slots but are building a dedicated, ticket-buying fan base.
Looking ahead, 2NIGHT Management continues to expand its reach. With a roster that now includes emerging talents like Ragie Ban, Greg 99, and Blaise Bracic, Rogan remains committed to discovering artists from outside traditional industry hubs. As he continues to bridge the gap between international talent and the American stage, his focus remains on the core principle that started it all: finding the talent the rest of the industry overlooked and providing them with a path to the world stage.
